A Prayer for Our Election

Shared by Rev. Liz

Join us in praying for our congregation - to hold onto hope, to know where to receive and focus our energy, to both abide in God and get active in justice, and for protection over those most impacted by political debates and decisions being made.

Prayer:

Gracious God -

As many stories and voices vie for our attention this political season, we stop and pause - to acknowledge You, Your presence, and Your promises. We know that You Jesus are above all things, and over all things. We know that You are actively involved in the affairs of this world and you rejoice with us, and mourn with us. Thank you for being a God of justice, a God of peace and shalom/enough for all, and a God who protects and provides for the marginalized, the poor, the immigrant, and the orphan. Remind us that as deeply as we care about these things we see happening across our national stage, You care even more, and You are already at work in the world stirring up goodness, justice, and hope.

Help us to turn to You and abide in Your truth and presence when we feel overwhelmed, anxious, or angry. Help us lift to You the names, communities, and policies that we know are most impacted by our policies and decisions about power and access. Help us to see how we can engage and use our voices, our resources, our circles of influence, and our skills instead of feeling silent, hopeless, or unbothered.

Present and powerful God, remind us this week to put our energy toward both abiding with You and actively fighting for justice this political season. Show us how to be a people who both trust You are with us and who loudly speak up with a prophetic voice. Embolden us to step into the ways we can each advocate for the common good, as well as rest and trust in You when the load seems heavy.

Together with the whole Church, we declare - may Your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. Amen.
