Elder Board Nominations 2024

Participate in the Board of Elders’ Discernment Process

Each year as a congregation we have the privilege of prayerfully taking part in discerning who God is calling to lead and serve our Body in the role of Elder. It is a collaborative process engaging the Holy Spirit’s direction, our congregation, the current Board of Elders, and the Nominating Committee. The Elder Board is primarily responsible for advising, advocating, and guiding LaSalle Street Church, and together with the Senior Pastor sets the direction for the organization and supports the staff in the shared goal of fulfilling our mission. Below is more information about the process, role, qualifications, and a proposed amendment to Elder term lengths.

The EB Nomination Process

  • Congregational members and regular attenders are all invited to prayerfully submit Elder Board nominations via the recommendation form below (turned in at the Welcome Table in the Sanctuary lower level), or via email(info@lasallestreetchurch.org) before Sunday, April 7, 2024.

  • The Nominating Committee (Verily Blim, Allison Bethel, Barb Hays, along with reps from the Elder Board), will review submissions and discern names to move forward with contacting in April/May.

  • The Nom Comm will share the list of candidates with the congregation at least two weeks prior to our Congregational Meeting on June 2, 2024; as part of that meeting, members will vote on Elders.

Proposed By-Laws Amendment - for June 2, 2024 Vote

This June we are also voting on a proposed bylaws amendment - to change the term of an Elder from being two years to three years. This change was approved by the Elder Board and would serve the following purposes:

  1. Help create more of a sustainable training/learning curve for three new Elders to join each year, as three Elders rotate off, instead of having half (5 or so) Elders rotate off each summer with shorter ramp up/training time available.

  2. Establish more time for mentoring Assistant Moderators and Assistant Treasurers, as key leadership roles, to be better equipped to step into lead after they’ve had time to walk alongside/learn from predecessor.

  3. Solidify our commitment to have a sustainable and clear ask of lay elders, and to widen diversity of voices who can serve, maintaining a healthy rhythm for Elder Bd meetings being only once per month, remotely/on zoom, for one hour
