family support teams
The Family Support Program seeks long-term solutions to the diverse barriers that prevent families from achieving self-sufficiency. Through the guidance and support of volunteers, families in the Family Support Program learn to set and achieve their own goals toward self-sufficiency and stability in relationships, education, career, finances and many other areas.
Teams of 3 to 4 volunteers share their skills, experience, and support with families as they become empowered to break free from poverty and achieve their life goals. These volunteers in turn receive support and expert advice from the members of a Professional Advisory Council, who have experience and skills in human services.
As part of a team of volunteers, you might help a family:
- Pursue education and employment
- Manage finances, time, and stress
- Develop parenting and relationship skills
- Build self-esteem
- Locate resources
This program’s focus on long-term solutions to important problems requires families and volunteers to commit at least one year to the program. Inside of that commitment, volunteers can anticipate time commitments of 6-8 hours per month.
