LSC 1st Annual Gospel Music Festival

Gospel music is bringing people together! Join the celebration of the 1st Annual Gospel Music Festival on May 18, 3:30 pm in the sanctuary building (1136 N. LaSalle).

First on the program, The LaSalle Street Choir with Rob Clearfield and the band will sing a set of some of LaSalle's gospel favorites. Then we will join forces with the Voices of Liberty Choir from Liberty Temple Full Gospel Church of Chicago under the direction of musical director Elsa Harris, for a closing celebration you will never forget. Bring a friend - THIS IS A FREE EVENT.

(Cornerstone Center's Leslie Hall, Room B / 11 am) Come hear some of the successes and challenges LaSallers working for not-for-profit organizations have encountered in their efforts to serve the underprivileged from around the city to around the globe. Panelists from the young adult generation of LaSalle will discuss the important role non-profits play in changing the world for the cause of Christ.

The 4th Sunday of every month is Frisbee Sunday. Come out on Sunday, May 25 for our second round of ultimate Ultimate Frisbee. Everyone is welcome to participate. Meet in Cornerstone Lobby at 12:45 pm. We will play until 2:00 or 2:30 pm, depending on the weather, how many people show up, etc. No matter what the weather, other than lightening, we will be playing. Ride to help young men take back their lives. Pump up your bike tires and tighten those handle bars, because Emmaus Ministries is inviting any and all to join them for their annual Endurance Ride on June 7 from 7 am to 7 pm in Kendall County, IL. Pentecost 2008: Training for Change

Sojourners has organized a special training in Washington, D.C., this June (13 to 15th) for any and all to learn how to bring the organization's Vote Out Poverty campaign to the local community level.

In this pivotal election year, Sojourners is using the occasion to go deeper, offering real skills to take back to communities and congregations as advocates for social and economic justice. Sojourners staff and other experienced organizers will facilitate small group workshops and other discussions aimed at equipping individuals with the practical knowledge needed for working toward social change. YOUTH SUMMER MISSION PROJECT

The Jr. and Sr. High youth will serve the local Chicago community this year for their Summer Mission Project from June 15th to 23rd, getting a taste of the different ministry opportunities here in Chicago. We will both learn from and participate with ministries such as Youth with a Mission, Breakthrough Urban Ministries, and possibly a few others during the week. We will be staying at the Youth with a Mission base. A $50 deposit and form will be needed by May 18th if you would like to go with us.

Details and cost, approximately $200, will follow. ALL youth - Jr. and Sr. High - are welcome on this project.

LSC Annual Block Party - Celebrate Good Times!

This year at the LaSalle Street Church Annual Block Party we are really celebrating good times! On Sunday, Aug. 10 come join in the fun as we celebrate the official grand reopening and restoration of our sanctuary with food, music and visits from the Jesse White Tumbling Team, the Chicago Fire Department, a jumping tent and more! Festivities will begin at 11:45 am on Elm Street, directly behind the church.

But wait! That is not all folks... Before the party begins on Elm Street (following the 9 am worship gathering) there will be a special commemorative service in the sanctuary at 11 am. This will be a special gathering, honoring the legacy, commitment and support of those who have made the reconstruction of the Lower Level - and widening of the doors - possible.

2008 All-Church Retreat

Save the date for the 2008 All Church Retreat during Columbus Day Weekend, October 10 to the 12th. The Wonderland Camp & Conference Center in Camp Lake, WI will be the new host site for our retreat this year, offering more space, more rooms and new recreational options than previous years. Watch for more details in the coming months.
