The LaSalle Senior Center Garden is now open for the summer season. Every Sunday the gates to the garden will be opened at 10:30 am. For those who will be visting the garden for the first time, it is located on the south side of Elm St. , just east of the Cornerstone Center building. Grab a cup of coffee and some treats between the services and enjoy the summer weather with other LaSallers in this quaint outdoor setting! PLEASE NOTE: The entrance to Leslie Hall from the garden will be locked, so please enter Leslie Hall from the usual front and side entrances.

A FRIENDLY NOTE OF INSTRUCTION

One of the joys of being who we are as a church is that needy and homeless folks know that we care about them. However, it is a challenge to know how to respond to someone who approaches you on a Sunday morning requesting money or a CTA pass. We want to be sensitive and at the same time appropriate in dealing with these requests on Sunday mornings. For this reason, we request that you refrain from giving cash or other items to individuals who request them. If the person is persistent concerning his or her immediate need, please refer them to Keith Richardson or Oreon Trickey. They often know the individual and are able to deal with their need in a way that is helpful and healthy for all involved. If you have further questions or concerns concerning soliciting on Sunday, feel free to contact Oreon.

A Community of Prayer

At LaSalle Street Church we believe in the power of a community in prayer and are honored to share the needs and concerns of each other. If you would like to share your joys and concerns with the LaSalle church community please send your requests to: Nicole Mondal at nmondal@lasallestreetchurch.org. Unspoken requests, as well as praises are welcomed.

Save the Date - 2009 Women's Retreat

The dates are booked for the 2009 Women's Retreat! We have reserved April 17 to 19 for our annual amazing LSC Women's Retreat.

So mark it on your calendar, your Outlook, your Blackberry, your fridge, get a tatoo on your arm, write it in sharpie on a wall, and plan to join us for yet another fun and meaningful gathering of the women of LaSalle. Contact Oreon for more details at 312.573.8836.

LSC 2008 Membership Classes

As part of its membership process, LaSalle is offering three interactive courses this year on what LaSalle Street Church is about. The first of these courses begins Sunday, April 6th.

These courses are designed for those who are interested in learning more about LaSalle at an in-depth level, and as a prerequisite for those applying for membership. The course topics focus on LaSalle’s vision and mission, theology, organizational structure and stewardship, history and community life.

Two of the three courses are offered on five consecutive Sundays during the first service time period.

The initial course is: April 6, 13, 20, 27 and May 4.
The second is in autumn: September 28, Oct 5, 19, 26, Nov 2.

For those who are unable to attend either of these series, there will also be a one-day course offered on Saturday, June 7 from 9am until 2pm.

If interested, please call the church office to register and get a detailed course description (registration for the spring course is open until Monday, March 31).

Young Adults

The crowd of 20 and 30-somethings at LaSalle Street Church is growing and so are the number of ways to connect with your peers. Catalyst - A time for Young Adults is a Sunday morning meeting at LSC, but more than that, it is also a community of Generation X and Y’ers avidly seeking out ways to immerse themselves into church life – together. For information about upcoming young adult events, join the Lasalle Young adult email listserv. Please contact Jeff Binder at jeff.binder@yahoo.com.

Sunday morning Catalyst meeting: 10am in Cornerstone Center Leslie Hall, Room B.
