SUNDAY MORNING You're done with Spring cleaning and now it's time to get rid of all that stuff you've decided you don't want anymore. Don't throw it out just yet! In a matter of weeks you will be able to drop off clothes, furniture, books, toys, dvd's, electronics, knick-knacks and other items the Tanzania Vision Team can sell at their upcoming Treasures for Tanzania Garage Sale. The garage sale will be Thursday and Friday, September 26 and 27 in Cornerstone Center's Leslie Hall. Stay tuned for more details regarding where and when to drop off items. -HAVE WORK THAT NEEDS DONE? Don't want to do it? Pay the Tanzania Team to do it for you. If you have boxes to move, mulch to spread, or other tedious chores that you would rather pay someone else to do, contact Devin to hire the Tanzania Team at dgoulding@lasallestreetchurch.org. For more information on the Tanzania Vision Trip, please visit the team's site at www.lasallestreetchurch.org/tanzania.php -The LaSalle Senior Center Garden is now open for the summer season. Every Sunday the gates to the garden will be opened at 10:30 am. For those who will be visting the garden for the first time, it is located on the south side of Elm St. , just east of the Cornerstone Center building. Grab a cup of coffee and some treats between the services and enjoy the summer weather with other LaSallers in this quaint outdoor setting! PLEASE NOTE: The entrance to Leslie Hall from the garden will be locked, so please enter Leslie Hall from the usual front and side entrances. -One of the joys of being who we are as a church is that needy and homeless folks know that we care about them. However, it is a challenge to know how to respond to someone who approaches you on a Sunday morning requesting money or a CTA pass. We want to be sensitive and at the same time appropriate in dealing with these requests on Sunday mornings. For this reason, we request that you refrain from giving cash or other items to individuals who request them. If the person is persistent concerning his or her immediate need, please refer them to Keith Richardson or Oreon Trickey. They often know the individual and are able to deal with their need in a way that is helpful and healthy for all involved. If you have further questions or concerns concerning soliciting on Sunday, feel free to contact Oreon. -At LaSalle Street Church we believe in the power of a community in prayer and are honored to share the needs and concerns of each other. If you would like to share your joys and concerns with the LaSalle church community please send your requests to: Nicole Mondal at nmondal@lasallestreetchurch.org. Unspoken requests, as well as praises are welcomed. -The dates are booked for the 2009 Women's Retreat! We have reserved April 17 to 19 for our annual amazing LSC Women's Retreat. As part of its membership process, LaSalle is offering three interactive courses this year on what LaSalle Street Church is about. The first of these courses begins Sunday, April 6th. The crowd of 20 and 30-somethings at LaSalle Street Church is growing and so are the number of ways to connect with your peers. Catalyst - A time for Young Adults is a Sunday morning meeting at LSC, but more than that, it is also a community of Generation X and Y’ers avidly seeking out ways to immerse themselves into church life – together. For information about upcoming young adult events, join the Lasalle Young adult email listserv. Please contact Jeff Binder at jeff.binder@yahoo.com. It is Sunday, church is over, you are hungry, but you are not ready to go home just yet? Then come out to lunch with 3rd Sun! 3rd Sun is an informal dining event that takes place every third Sunday of the month in Cornerstone Center's Room 100 at 12:45 pm. It is so informal in fact, that we ask you to BYOL - bring your own lunch. So be sure to bring a sack lunch from home or run out to a local eatery to pick up a to-go lunch, or else you'll be hungry! For more information about these awesome eat n' hang out times, contact Oreon at 312-573-8836. -Come dine with us during our monthly Potluck Sundays! Every first Sunday of the month we gather in Cornerstone Center's Leslie Hall immediately following the 11am worship gathering. Join us and bring a dish to share! -Following the 11 am service and adult education, we are now offering a fellowship coffee time. Join us in the church building's lower level at 12:30 for a cup o'java, snacks, and good conversation. -Do you like to read in church? New people are always welcome to join the group of liturgical readers who read prayers and Scriptures and lead in worship each week. Contact Gary Rand at grand@lasallestreetchurch.org for more information. |
